THE APPROACH

The set design for this modern production of Hamlet aims to juxtapose contemporary and ancient elements, reflecting on changing views and the black experience today. The stage will be a dynamic canvas, featuring a fusion of sleek, minimalist structures alongside fragments of classical architecture, symbolizing the collision of past and present. A central motif of the cracked ankh replaced by the cross will reflect the complexities of identity and self-discovery, while subtle nods to African heritage through textiles and patterns will honor the black experience. Lighting will play a pivotal role, shifting from stark modernity to warm, evocative hues, echoing the emotional journey of the characters. This design seeks to challenge perceptions, weaving together timeless themes with a contemporary lens, inviting audiences to delve into Hamlet's introspection through a diverse and resonant perspective.
